I hi-jacked a blog post and totally got busted!!
So, the other day, I completely copy and
pasted my boss’ Jenni Catron’s blog post! (that is the post that I ripped off) For clarity sake, I did NOT ask her for permission. I didn’t even tell her that I did it. I just out-right stole it. Now, watch this…shortly after I posted it, then Pete Retweeted it and then I knew I was screwed!
So, that morning was our regular meeting time and I started the meeting with this, “Jenni, I need to confess something to you…“, she interrupted me and said…“DUDE…you totally stole my blog post today!” Here’s the funniest part, shortly after our meeting Pete came into my office and thought that Jenni had stolen my post!
NOW THAT RIGHT THERE IS FUNNY…I DON’T CARE WHO YOU ARE!
It kind of reminded me of “The Office”…it was just a little church drama that was stinkin hilarious. No worries…it was all taken lightly and we are all friends now.
Confession time: are you a blog stealer?
Um…is this really stealing if you’re just promoting a big movement at the church? I just looked at it like church staff cross-promoting FH&L.
Sure, Jenni writes better than you but still…
Too funny. You know I don’t care
Jenni…this is my public apology! Please don’t tell your husband…I don’t want to go to jail!
Stealing a blog post? For Shame! If you’re going to steal a post at least steal it from someone who doesn’t work with you! It’s no wonder you got busted.
Brad…you would think that would be obvious, right? pretty stupid…i know!! This is my way of confessing my sins though…so give me a little grace bro!
Don’t worry Jenni…I stole Blake’s post a few weeks back! Well, I think you would technically call it “Christian borrowing” . I do agree with Jason…Jenni is a much better writer than both of us bro! Thanks for sharing your story and for allowing me to refer people to it!
Tracey…I was wandering if you’d ever own your sin!
That’s hilarious.
Sure, I might lift an “idea” for a blog post such as an 8 Things or Top 10 list or a concept such as “The Paradox of Humility” (a blog post I’m working on now) – but Dude, at least use your own experiences to make it your own (just had to dog pile on with the teasing). So, in keeping with the spirit of “borrowing” others ideas – I did read this quote somewhere but can’t recall the author to give credit – “We should all find ideas that have worked for others and adapt them to our own life situations and to make them our own.” Cheers!!
Blake…I just looked at the post you were talking about…Dude, you stole it and didn’t even give her any link love or credit…that’s just wrong bro! LOL! At least I gave you credit and link love.
I borrow blog posts all the time, but I usually provide a link to who I borrowed it from, and a lame joke about how my talent is stealing from the very best…
I don’t dare ‘borrow’ blog posts without giving proper linkies and due reference.
You should know it will always come back to bite ya.
I must be real out of this humorous loop. OK, I find office funny and yes this is like an office script, but is it real or a joke. And the truth probably lies around church staff promoting each others blogs through outlandish statements.
Now, the ‘debbie downer” comment: If you are a child of Christ, you are His ambassador, often the only living Bible some people may ever see. So what is the humor in it.
I posted a real confession on my blog last week, http://abuseandtrauma-hope.blogspot.com/2009/10/time-for-confession-time-to-be-real.html, it is Titled “A Time for Confession, A Time to be Real.
I prefer in cross God-promoting, lifting up Him, being authentic, vulnerable and still very funny about the little things in life…like what color you put in your hair (my 12 yo dd chose red streaks) or what prank you pull on your mate (I put an ice pack in my hubby’s nightpants pocket a few days ago).
Stealing, confession, media tactics to grow blog # or cross-promote…all fine in a lighthearted office, but what about the people who happen to click over to ’see what it is all about’ and read this as their “Bible” for the day, what we do or don’t do reflects on God. His grace is sufficient and He smiles upon us, and wants us to enjoy freedom in living a life of surrender and obedience to Him.
For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain (lifted from Philippians in the Bible)
Have a grace-filled day!
Okay, I’ll admit it… I’m a total blog thief! I steal people’s blog ideas, topics, even phrases all the time. However, in my defense, I usually try (at least try) to either give credit or a link… just like the one I linked to your post.
So, let’s make a deal. I’m giving you permission to steal anything from my blog if you ever decide you want to (I know, I know, that’s a big “if”). In exchange, will you put me on your blogroll? You have some cool readers and I have no shame in wanting them to come to the Dark Chocolate side!
Love ya, Broseph!
you make me feel guilty… i’m a good girl, I never do anything like that..maybe I should take after you and steal from your blog.. LOL
But I have to agree with Jason that if its a big movement in the church why not “borrow” it..
I think maybe this was your way of saying to your boss.. “I follow your lead.” way to go!
Glad you guys are all friends!!
