stop and listen…you moron!
So, this week we had some friends over and afterwards I told all my girls to get their night clothes on and get to bed. They were all done and climbing into bed when my four year old, named Mercy, walks in the room and she still had all her clothes on. So, in one sentence, without taking a breath, I said, “what are you doing…why don’t you have your night clothes on..get them on, and climb into bed right now!” So she quietly did what I said. After she got dressed she climbed into bed and then she looked up at me. That is when she very humbly said, “Daddy, do you know why I didn’t have my night clothes on? Daddy, nobody asked me to, but I was out in the playroom cleaning up the mess that all the children made and I didn’t hear you.” As she said that her lips were quivering and big crocodile tears rolled down her face.
Wow…I completely crushed her little spirit because I wasn’t willing to stop and listen to her. I am such a moron!! So, I picked her up and held her and said, “Mercy, I am soooo sorry, I love you baby…please forgive your daddy…you are amazing, and thank you for cleaning up without being asked.”
Have you ever had a moment that you wish that you could have over again?
I totally understand. Executing our agenda can often times steam roll our children.
What an encouragement to have a “generous” child – one who continues to give without request.
Hope all is well for you! – Danny
you suck as a dad! i would have never done anything like that! – randy
btw… i ain’t got nothin but love for ya baby!!!
ha ha
jk about all that you suck as a dad business…
The greatest part of it all is: everytime we forget our children we can always find them where Mary and Joseph found their child…In the Father’s House. The Father always comforts the neglected- and He has not stopped. It seems funny because when we retrace our steps we find out that our children are right where we left them- standing in the arms of Christ; unfortunately we forget them both.
“There are 2 types of people in this world, (1) those that are humbled and (2) those that are about to be.”
Love you because of Him. Stay Fixed. ~ e.c.
WOW!! Yep, I think as a parent we all have those moments when we jump the gun to get things “done” without seeing what they are really “doing” for us.
Hope to hear from you soon!
Summer
You are the best daddy in the whole wide world…HANDS DOWN! How else would she have a heart to serve your family the way she did! I am so crazy about you…so blessed!
Oh man, do I! There’s nothing like your children to teach you patience. Such a learning curve, too.
Danny…I always love your authentic words of wisdom.
Randy..you are awesome, your words always make me feel so alive and encouraged…JERK!
Ally…you humble me..thank you for loving “the whole package.”
Karen, I loved your site…I love learning from my own children even though it is some of the hardest learning out there.
Eric..your passion blows me away..you are an inspirational world changer. when are you done with college, i want you on my staff!!!!!!!
thanks for all your thoughts and insights…
Blake…what parent doesn’t have moments like these? It is the wise and humble parent who can see his mistake and seek forgiveness from his child. Well done…and I am sure your daughter would agree.
Typical alien. Your heavenly Father provides you with the opportunity to show your daughter what humility and asking forgiveness looks like, and her the opportunity to forgive you, and you want to undo it?? Maybe you are a moron. (grin)
Blake,
I found you due to a moment that made you famous…Watched you on Prank 316 too.
Well, as dads we are morons sometimes. But the quality is found in your words to your Mercy “Forgive me…”
The problem is not to err, the problem is when we do not repent.
I wish you the very best and all of God’s blessings
Peter
